Ghoul safety pamphlets handed out around the world speak of the poisonous nature of their saliva. Whether due to poor brushing habits or years of sewer-travel, ghouls' spit is so toxic that wounds caused by their bites quickly become infected. Even the regenerative powers of a Vampire aren't enough to heal the ghoul's damage, which has led to the old saying, "Ghouls are bastards."
