It’s time for a new contest!



It’s no secret that Super Mario Bros. was a major influence on my artwork when I was a little kid in the 80s. The Mario Bros. style still creeps into my artwork now and then; I don’t think I’ll ever escape it. Which is what this contest is all about.

In this contest, two universes collide: my own Ben & Winslow universe and the universe of Super Mario Bros. Your entry could be Ben & Winslow characters interacting with Mario Bros. characters, Ben & Winslow characters in the Mushroom Kingdom, or any other idea you can think of, as long as it incorporates both Ben & Winslow and Super Mario Bros. Be creative!

The Rules!

1- Your drawing must contain at least one character from my Ben & Winslow comics. It might be Ben. It might be Winslow. It might be Laura, or Attention Whore, or Kurt the Cynic, or that sad guy who’s always talking about killing himself. It might be several of these characters. Use who you want! (Note: This is strictly a Ben & Winslow contest, so no Vampiric Minority characters, please!)

2- Your drawing must contain some element of the Super Mario Bros. video game series. It can be characters, settings, costumes, whatever. The Super Mario Bros. elements must be clearly identifiable as such. And no, I don’t care which game(s) you use.

3- Indicate copyrights for both my characters and Nintendo’s.

4- You can enter as many times as you like. My normal contest rule about one judged entry per person is GONE.

5- I’m not going to stifle your creativity. Use any medium you want—including short stories and poems—in whatever way you want, but let’s keep these entries within deviantART regulations, got it? No pornography, racism, or anything of that sort. If you have any questions about what may or may not be allowed, please don’t hesitate to ask. It never hurts to be safe.

6- There will be three categories: Funniest, Strangest, and Most Thematic. The winner in each category will win a single character drawing from me, and a three-month deviantART subscription. The winners will be chosen by myself and an independent panel of judges. Once the winners for each category are chosen, I will let all of YOU decide who the overall winner should be. The overall winner gets their single character drawing bumped to a three-character drawing, and their three-month subscription boosted to a 6-month subscription. Aces!

7- Contest starts today and will go until August 10th. Plenty of time to get those creative juices flowing. I will add each entry to my favorites and list them in journal updates every week.

8- Spread the word. Tell your friends!
