The majority of your ideas involved robots and swimsuits, so let's shake things up a bit and combine the two!
Are Ben and Winslow vacationing in a robot beach resort? Is Little Winslow spending the summer in the deadly Masked Robot Fighting League with his robotic luchador battlesuit? Has a robot beach volleyball team moved into the apartment next door to Apsara's? Has Laura invited a robot over for her summer role playing game campaign? Is Kurt the Cynic dating a robot swimsuit model? I DON'T KNOW! That's why I need YOU to show me! What's everybody doing this summer, and why are there so many damned robots involved?!
I want to see some stuff I've never seen before. Blow me away with your wild ideas and your unique interpretations of my characters. If you want to draw Ben and Winslow as real people, go for it. If you want to draw them in anime style, be my guest. If you want to have them go on a time-traveling adventure to fight the robotic dinosaurs on the beaches of the future Cretaceous, by all means DO IT! Creativity is key! I've purposefully chosen a broad theme to let you guys go crazy.
The Rules:
1-Your entry must feature at least ONE Ben & Winslow character of your choosing and at least ONE robot. And there should be something vaguely… summery about the whole thing. I'll leave it up to you to decide what that means, exactly. You're encouraged to interpret my characters in whatever style you want, but please make sure the characters are identifiable. I want to know who I'm looking at!
2-You are free to use any medium you want: digital, traditional, photography, sock puppet theater, anything. Even short stories and poems will be considered.
3-All entries must state in their description that they're a submission for this contest, and must contain the appropriate copyright information.
4-All entries must adhere to the usual deviantART rules. If you aren't able to post it here on deviantART for whatever reason, you can't enter it in this contest. I don't mind R-rated stuff, but slap a Mature Content warning on it. And no pornographic or hateful content, please. There are kids around, you know?
5-This contest will last for about two months. You have from now until midnight, September 3rd to submit your entries. Send them to me in a note or as a comment to this journal entry so I'm sure to see them.
6-When the contest closes, an impartial panel of judges (including me and a selection of your deviantART peers) will vote on their favorite entries based on their creativity and their use of the theme.
The (Glorious) Prizes:
First Place: A gallery feature in my deviantART journal, an appearance in a future Ben & Winslow comic, a two-character drawing, and $50 (via PayPal or deviantART stuff).
Second Place: A gallery feature in my deviantART journal, an appearance in a future Ben & Winslow comic, and a single character drawing.
Third Place: A gallery feature in my deviantART journal and a single character drawing.
FAQ:
1-How many times can I enter? As many times as you want!
2-Can I include characters from television, movies, video games, comics, etc.? Can I include my original characters? Yes and yes! As long as you feature at least one Ben & Winslow character and at least one robot, you can add whoever else you want to your entry. And yes, if one of those additional characters happens to be a robot, that counts toward your robot requirement. Just keep in mind this is a contest about Ben and Winslow and robots, so don't lose sight of the theme!
3-What if I draw Robot Ben? Does he count toward both requirements? No. He can count as either your Ben & Winslow character or your robot, but not both. Stop trying to slack off, slackerpants.
4-Which Ben & Winslow characters can I choose? Any of the main and secondary cast members, and any of the easily identifiable bit roles. A list of examples: Ben, Winslow, Little Winslow, Kurt the Cynic, Psychic Rob, Annie, Kate, Apsara, Laura, Dr. Spiderqueen, Reya the Misanthrope, Robot Ben, Dog Person, the guy in the hat, and that hippo-faced kid from down the street.
5-What counts as a robot? Androids, steam-powered automatons, assembly line robots, cyborgs, and robots built from whatever materials you can think of.
